Nigeria vs Egypt: Mikel, NAIJ.com reporter mobbed in Kaduna

– A NAIJ.com journalist was robbed of all his valuables after the Super Eagles clash with Egypt  

– Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi was mobbed before the match with the Pharaohs  

– The Super Eagles played against Egypt at an overcrowded Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna  


Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi and a Naij.com journalist were mobbed by fans at an overcrowded Ahmadu Bello stadium.


Nigeria played a 1 – 1 draw with Egypt at an overcrowded Ahmadu Bello stadium on Friday in an AFCON 2017 qualifier.



Before the match, Mikel Obi was mobbed by fans after he refused to take a selfie. The Chelsea midfielder was mobbed at the teams’ hotel, African Continental Hotel in Kaduna, during their road walk, shortly before the commencement of the match.

After the match, NAIJ.com journalist Babajide Orevba was robbed off all his valuable including his phone, wallet, wrist watch, phone power bank and a NAIJ.com microphone.

 He was on his way to interview players post-match but was apprehended by thugs who demanded his valuables. Capital Oil boss Ifeanyi Ubah’s security aid saw the robbery and were able to come to the rescue of the journalist.

 The match was played at an overcrowded stadium with fans watching the match from unusual places like the floodlights, scoreboards.

 Oghenekaro Etobo’s 60th minute strike was cancelled out by Mohammed Salah who scored a 90th minute goal for the Pharaohs against the run of play.





Minister of Sport, Solomon Dalung has asked for details of the journalist after Orevba’s colleague announced the theft on twitter.

As at press time, Orevba is in his hotel trying to recover from the shock of the robbery.
