This enormously fat man needs fire truck to get to clinic

Oscar Vasquez Morales, the fattest man in Colombia, had to call on a team of 20 men and a fire truck to take him to a weight-loss clinic.

The man, 44, was gorging on a diet of junk food for decades. Now he waits around 400kg (or 882lbs).

Mr. Morales was warned that if he did not lose weight his condition would cost him his life. However, before he began his treatment he faced another obstacle – leaving his house.

The fat man needs assistance performing simple day-to-day activities – going to the toilet, dressing, ect. Also he hasn’t walked unaided for years.

He said: “When my whole family goes out for a walk, I stay alone, because I cannot move. But I would, even if it was only to walk a few blocks to visit my brothers.”

He suffers from the creases in his skin, severe pelvic lymphedema and sleep apnoea as well.

So leaving his home was a monumental task. But fortunately, when his local fire department heard about his problem they rushed to his aid and helped him on his way.

Now Mr. Morales undergoes treatment from nutritionists, a psychologist and physicians before facing gastric surgery. He hopes to lose 300kg (662lbs) in four years.

Mr. Morales’ battle with obesity began in his teens when his parents died from fatal heart attacks. After their death he fell into a deep depression and began eating fast foods.

Now the man turned in a positive way. He says: “I want to take care of myself.”
